Joy in the Next Room is an exhibition curated by 23 year old Minnesota Artist Camden Stevens. the show is a testament to the power of adjacent experiences and a scrutinization of a collective sense of vicarious memory. Leaning into the themes of memory, outsider perspective, and yearning, Joy in the Next Room aims to capture the feeling of jubilation that is just out of reach and the ability to find solace in the margins of pleasure.

Joy in the Next Room (soundtrack from the exhibition)

The score for this show is an edit of the album What’s Tonight to Eternity by Cindy Lee edited by Camden Stevens. The album’s liminal construction fused with its 40’s inspired vocals directly hit the notes of distant bliss and nostalgic melancholy highlighted in the exhibition. The way the sound bounces back and forth between industrial grit and trance-like euphoria are the perfect foundation for the artworks selected to exist within.
